The Pastoral Staff spent some time together last month to help cast a vision for the summer of 2011.  Many of our Sunday School Teachers take a well deserved hiatus during a portion of the summer. The idea for an Intergenerational Choir surfaced as we explored creative options for the 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. hour.

Basically, we would like to invite all children (kindergarten and above) and adults to come together weekly (9:45 – 10:45 a.m.)  from July 3 – August 14 in the Choir Room. We will learn three songs in Karen, Chin, and English: Solid Rock (chorus only), To God be the Glory (chorus only), and the Doxology. We will mentor one another in our native languages.  We will also learn a couple of songs in latin. The last fifteen minutes of each rehearsal will be dedicated to learning various phrases in Karen, Chin, Lasu, and Burmese, study the uniqueness of each culture, etc.

The Choir will sing during worship on July 24 and August 14th. It is only realistic to expect choir members to miss a rehearsal or two as many of us travel in the summertime. A CD of the songs will be mass produced to help everyone practice while you’re away. Please consider this genuine invitation and make plans to join us on Sunday! E-mail Judy@tbcrichmond.org or Pastor@tbcrichmond.org if you’ve got any specific questions.

Worship: Trinity Sunday, 6.19.11

The service focuses on the Gospel of Matthew’s passage that implores us to GO into the world bearing Christ’s message.  A Mendelssohn duet by Denise Lowe Walters and Elgin Lowe is featured and scripture readings are shared by the Impact Virginia Team.

Worship: Pentecost Sunday, 6.12.11

Our worship centers on the the Pentecost Celebration. The Sanctuary Choir leads in worship for the last time before their well deserved summer hiatus. Worship leaders include Giuseppe Miglio, Cecil Gholston, Ryan Corbitt, and Judy Fiske. The Pentecost candle, crafted by Ben Walters and portrayed in the podcast images, is magnificent. The hundreds of candles we held in our hands on Christmas Eve and Transfiguration have been melted and formed into one singular candle.  We follow Christ into the world, on the other side of Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost,  embracing the spirt that binds us together. One of the  highlights of the service includes a unique reading of Acts 2:1-21 in Greek, Korean, Portuguese, Karen, Chin, Burmese, French, Italian, German, English, Spanish, and Kachin. Bill and Susan Braden conclude the service during the invitation hymn and we joyfully welcome them as our newest church members. God is moving at Tabernacle in some wonderful ways!
