Throughout this summer of 2020 we will be working with the concepts that are central to our Christian belief system in an effort to reframe them in a way that will enable us to more effectively do the work of ministry through our church in the 21 Century.
Reframing means to change the way something is expressed or considered. The vaule and truth of the ideas being reframed do not change, we are simply trying to look at them in different ways and through different lenses.
We began by reminding ourselves of the basic tenents of our faith. On June 7, we considered the Trinity, June 14, God, June 21, Jesus and June 28, the Holy Spirit.
The months of July and August will be spent looking at the church as a manifestation of God’s work in this world. Current events have certainly worked in the last few months to push for and now to demand that we reframe the ways in which we as Christians live and work in this world.

HYMN: “The Church’s One Foundation”

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
Where is the servant church amidst the bluster and boast? Look to the tables: Look to the dining tables where stranger and misfit find both food and welcome. Look to the altar tables where humility and justice roll down. Look to the bread: Broken shared at the altar broken shared in the home broken shared in the lunch break broken shared in the open heart.
Look to the eyes: eyes that rejoice eyes that weep eyes that celebrate eyes that see the Christ clothed in humanity Where is the servant church? Look to the eyes that see, across the table, through broken bread, the eyes of Christ in each returning gaze.
Following the Worship Service, we encourage you to continue visiting with friends in the Livestream Chat, or join a Talk-Back moderated by Sandi Lowery and Beth McMahon. Share your laughter and tears, along with your prayer needs, as we discuss the sermon of the week.

CALL TO WORSHIP: Nicene Creed
I believe in one God the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

CALL TO WORSHIP: “God in Christ” (Susan Palo Cherwien)
God in Christ. God in flesh. God in human form. The impact of the Christ story should startle and delight us; it should form our lives and our desire, it should turn our heads. For God entered creation in a new way; God sat at table and shared bread God laughed and God wept, God savored sunsets and felt damp sand on the soles of feet, God suffered God risked, God danced, And thus God blessed human life. There should be no more doubt. Life is blessed. Life is holy.
